COVID Testing in Riverside

The city of Riverside is located in Riverside County, from the east of Los Angeles in Southern California. Riverside is known as the Inland Empire in Southern California, and is surrounded by cities such as Norco, Corona, and Eastvale. According to the Census, Riverside County has a population of 2.47 million in 2019, and the city of Riverside accounts for 330,000 residents of that total population. The city of Riverside, as with many other large cities across the United States, has had a difficult battle against the COVID-19 virus. Businesses, schools, and events have been closed since mid March as the county has tried to control the spread of the virus. Now, almost 8 months into the pandemic, businesses have begun to open again with new precautions in place. However, larger spaces such as schools and offices have had a more difficult time coming back due to the lack of testing, contact tracing, and symptom checking abilities. Lifeline Health has aided in the battle against COVID-19 by opening a rapid COVID-19 testing site in the Riverside area, so that residents can have access to easy and safe testing, and help slow the spread of the virus.

Facts on Rapid COVID-19 Testing

COVID Testing in Riverside

Since the pandemic began, the FDA has been pushing out new forms of testing in order to test as many people as possible to access how bad the spread of the virus has been. The FDA website has become a hub for the latest information on what tests have been approved, where you can get them, and what the details of the test are. As of now, diagnostic tests are being used to detect an active COVID-19 infection, while antibody tests are being used to detect past infections. In terms of diagnostic tests, there are molecular tests (which have been used the majority of the pandemic) and antigen tests (which have been more recently approved by the FDA for use). Molecular and antigen tests can both be administered through a nose swab, and can both detect an active COVID-19 infection. However, molecular tests have been known to be more accurate, although they do take 3-7 days to receive results, which can be harmful when trying to slow the spread of the virus as quickly as possible. Antigen tests, on the other hand, have been known to show false negatives in some cases, but can get results back in as little time as an hour. This is vital in bringing people back together again if we are able to scale out the use of rapid antigen testing. Lifeline Health is helping with this process by making rapid antigen testing available to the residents of Riverside County at our COVID-19 testing site in Norco, California.
