COVID Testing in Los Angeles

Testing for COVID in Los Angeles

COVID Testing in Los AngelesCOVID Testing in Los Angeles means access for millions of Californias as the pandemic continues.  Los Angeles is the largest city in California, and one of the most well known cities around the world. As the center of the film and television industry, Los Angeles has been a center of pop culture since its founding years. Los Angeles County as a whole is the most populous county in the United States with over 10 million residents as of 2018. Due to its incredibly high population density, it has been one of the hardest hit cities by the COVID-19 virus in the United States. Since COVID-19 made its way to the United States in March, Los Angeles County has reported over 270,000 cases, according to LA County Public Health. Because Los Angeles County has such a high population, it is vital that mass testing is available to its residents. Lifeline Health has recently opened a new COVID-19 testing site that is easily accessible to LA County residents in Torrance, California. If you or a loved one has symptoms or has been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, it is important that you know where your local COVID-19 testing centers are so that you can receive tested and subsequent treatment if necessary.

What Types Of COVID Testing in Los Angeles Are Available?

COVID Testing in Los Angeles

The FDA is a valuable resource for any information on current approved testing methods for the COVID-19 virus. According to the FDA, testing is available across the United States for active infections (diagnostic tests) and inactive/past infections (antibody tests). If you believe you have been infected with the COVID-19 virus, you will want to receive a diagnostic test in order to detect whether or not you have an active infection. There are currently two main types of diagnostic tests: a molecular test and an antigen test. Antigen tests are the new form of rapid COVID-19 testing that has been recently approved by the FDA. Antigen tests are taken through a mouth or nose swab, and are able to provide the patient with results in an hour or so. Molecular tests can also be taken through a nose swab, but results can take anywhere from 3-7 days to be conclusive. It is important to note, however, that antigen tests can provide the patient with a false negative, so a healthcare provider may recommend a molecular test instead. Contact your local testing center for more information on what tests they provide and what their protocol is. Lifeline Health has recently opened a COVID-19 testing site in Los Angeles (Torrance) that provides rapid antigen testing.
