When Is It Safe To Break COVID-19 Quarantine?

People diagnosed positive for COVID-19 and have been placed in quarantine may ask their doctors questions about when they can be released from isolation and move on with living their lives as usual.

According to the CDC, for patients with access to testing, they recommend that patients should remain in isolation till there’s an improvement in their respiratory systems, no fever, and two negative results from nasopharyngeal swabs taken at least 24 hours apart. And patients who showed no COVID-19 symptoms but tested positive should wait 10 days since their positive test results.

While for patients without access to testing, the CDC advises patients to stay in quarantine till it has been 10 days since their symptoms appeared first. And about 3 days since their fever got resolved without medications.

You don’t need notes that say you’re free to go to work. This is because of the CDC guidelines. But when you get back to your daily life, you must maintain personal hygiene as this is necessary to curb the spread.

Quarantine and Testing Signs To Look For

First of all, you need to know the symptoms before you take a COVID test. The common ones, according to WHO, include:

  • Fever
  • Tiredness
  • Cough

When things get a bit serious, you start to see symptoms like:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of appetite
  • Continued pains in the chest
  • High temperature

If you’ve had the infection before and you get reinfected again (although very rare), CDC is working to understand the cases of reinfection. But you’ll have to take another COVID-19 test to be sure.

If you’ve had COVID before, you should still take active steps to protect yourself by wearing facemasks, avoiding confined areas, washing your hands, and maintaining a distance of 6 feet from others.
